Most Frequently Asked Questions about "Tankless Water Heaters."
1. Q. I know very little about tankless water heaters, so how can I be sure that I am getting the best tankless water heater.
This is by far the most important question to be answered.
The original tankless water heaters were developed to be used for a single fixture i.e. a single sink or shower. The temperature control wasn’t and isn’t suitable for multiple fixture use (i.e. a whole house) but a majority of electric tankless water heaters still use modified versions of this earliest technology.
Almost any company can find friends, employees, or business associates to provide testimonials for their product but it is very difficult to introduce new and innovative technology that earns the national and international recognition that will demonstrate to you that it is a mature and proven product.
It’s for this reason that a consumer should look for the obvious. Is this product’s technology patented and if so what is the patent number(s). With this information you can go directly to the U.S. Patent Office site (provided below) enter the number of the patent (is this really new and continuingly improving technology?) and hit search.
When the patent comes up you can scroll down through the ABSTRACT, then Claims until you get to the Field of Invention for a complete a description of why the inventor believes his technology is important.
This is so much better than listening to sales hype and more fun too. Here’s the United States Patent Office web site, US PATENT OFFICE LINK have some fun and try it with U.S. Patent # 6,246,831. Then look at the Highlights on the SEISCO for more information and compare.
2. Q. How do I select the right model of SEISCO.
Refer to the SEISCO APPLICATION SECTION on this web site.
3. Q. How much savings can I really enjoy from a tankless water heater.
That will depend on the type of heater you currently use and the cost of utilities in your area as well as where you are able to locate your heater. You can expect to enjoy from 30-50% savings from your SEISCO over an electric tank heater.
These savings don’t come just from not heating and reheating the water in a tank, as that is only part of the costs. In addition you are not keeping water heated as hot as you do in a tank. Piping losses can easily equal the standby (loss through a tank when not used) losses.
When you locate a tankless closer to your major use areas you reduce the hot water you run before it reaches the fixture. That means less hot water left in the pipes that you had paid to heat wasted as it cools down after use.
You could actually save more, in many areas, from your SEISCO over a gas tank heater which is located in your home. Gas prices have risen and it’s not uncommon to see the cost for heating water with a gas tank exceeding $300.
In addition a cost that is not discussed is the cost of the loss of air through the vent in your home. This is air you paid to heat or cool. It’s like leaving a window open all year. This cost can easily exceed $100 a year.

4. Q. Will one SEISCO take care of my house with 3 bathrooms, etc.
The answer is yes, but you need to remember that you are installing a water heating system and not just a tank.
Not only your needs, but your ultimate expectations need to be considered. We provide all the design information that you would need in the Applications Section on our web site.

5. Q. What about hard water conditions. Do tankless water heaters really reduce the amount of mineral deposits?
The Seisco can significantly reduce mineral deposits but you need to understand how and why. Since water acts like an insulator and doesn’t accept heat rapidly,
- mineral deposits are caused by a heating element getting so hot that the heat can’t be transferred to the water fast enough and so boiling occurs around the heating elements sheath. That’s the same reason that you get deposits at the bottom of a pan you use to boil water. This condition is common in tank heaters when the element turns on full power and no water is flowing.
- The Seisco is unique in its patented technology, which causes each its elements at all times to share equally the heating load. This means that if you have four heating elements and need to use 25% of your heaters heating capacity, the Seisco turns on each of the four elements at 25% of their heating capacity. (Like lights on a dimmer)
- All other tankless heaters will turn at least One of the four elements on FULL POWER every time the heater is used. Obviously the Seisco elements are each individually operating cooler thus less chance for boiling.
- Additional boiling can occur when the heater is turned off. When you turn your water off and the heater shuts off, the heating elements are still much hotter than the water (latent heat) and will add that heat to the water. In the case of the other tankless water heaters the element that was on FULL will be extremely HOT when the heater is turned off and literally boil additional minerals out of the water virtually every time the heater is turned on and off.
6. Q. How does a flow switch help reduce mineral deposits.
FLOW SWITCHES DO NOT REGULATE TEMPERATURE. THEY ONLY TURN ON POWER CIRCUITS THAT ALLOW THE HEATING ELEMENTS TO BE TURNED ON WHEN HOT WATER USE STARTS AND OFF WHEN USE STOPS.
THE SEISCO MICROPROCESSOR CONTROL DOES NOT NEED OR USE ANY MOVING PARTS IN THE WATER PATH INCLUDING A FLOW SWITCH NO FLOW SWITCH EVER DESIGNED ELIMINATES LATENT HEAT.
Unlike a tank, you can and should operate any tankless water heater at lower temperatures, but this won’t change the BOILING from tankless water heaters in which that single element will always be turned on FULL POWER at shut down.
For more information on the benefits of the patented Power Sharing read the SEISCO CHALLENGE.
7. Q. What makes the SEISCO so unique from other tankless water heaters.
WOW! The answer to that question could go on all day.
Briefly, SEISCO uses DuPont high performance engineering composite resins for its heating chambers to virtually eliminate scaling and provide very long service life.
The SEISCO uses true microprocessor (computer control) power control containing the software for the use of its multi-patented control technology.
This control assures you the benefits of very precise temperature control for comfortable simultaneous use.
8. Q. What about safety, including scald protection.
The essence of the SEISCO technology is temperature control.
No other tankless water heater provides equal protection by virtue of the SEISCO’s very precise control of temperature conditions.
You operate your SEISCO forever at lower safe temperatures that eliminate scald potential In addition, the SEISCO uses a myriad of safety devices to further insure the safest of any electric water heater operation including relays, which completely disconnect power to the heating elements after use.
Dual safety high temperature limit switches, dual water level detection circuitry to prevent the heater from turning on when there is insufficient water level in the heater.
SEISCO provides leak detection that sounds an alarm in the event that there is water leaking from the plumbing attached to the SEISCO.
9. Q. Why is the SEISCO larger 15" X 15" than the other very small tankless water heaters I have seen.
We at SEISCO discovered a long time ago that it was critically important to increase the amount of water in the tankless water heater as you increased the power.
This way we made sure that even with high power elements, much safer temperature control was accomplished. Most tankless water heaters today started at lower power ratings.
They have increased the power but not the water capacity (buffer) in the heater. This increases the high temperature conditions that occur when the heater is turned off. The latent heat, still in the elements, is added to the extremely small quantity of water the was already hot.
10.Q. What about electrical requirements.
Your homes electrical service should typically be rated at 150 to 200amps. You check this by looking at the main circuit breaker in your electric panel box.
The electrical information is provided in a separate section of this web site.
ELECTRICAL GUIDE
If you do not have sufficient electrical service you may want to consider upgrading your electrical service or just using the EXTENDER model of the SEISCO in line with your existing tank.
11.Q. My electrical service isn’t sufficient today for the largest whole house system. If I purchase a smaller EXTENDER model do I have to buy an additional SEISCO later when I do upgrade my electrical service.
The EXTENDER will insure endless hot water and not require you to presently upgrade your service. (See information in the models Section)
IN THE FUTURE, HOWEVER, IF YOU UPGRADE YOUR SERVICE, YOU DON’T NEED TO BUY ANOTHER SEISCO, JUST UPGRADE THE SEISCO EXTENDER. IT’S EASY AND INEXPENSIVE.
